2001: A Space Odyssey
2001: A Space Odyssey was a science fiction novel by Arthur C. Clarke, and a film by director Stanley Kubrick, both created in 1968. It takes place primarily on an exploratory spaceship run by an artificial intelligence on a secretive mission to Jupiter.
In 1969, Roberta Lincoln invited Gary Seven to a screening of the film in a nearby theater in New York City. Following an adventure aboard the USS Enterprise, however, Lincoln decided the science fiction film would not be able to live up to her real-life experience. (TOS novel: Assignment: Eternity)
When Khan Noonien Singh hacked into the Beta 5 computer in 1989, it affected the machine's speech interface in a way that Lincoln compared to a scene from 2001, in which the HAL 9000 computer sang the song "Daisy" while being deactivated. (TOS novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)
In December of 2152, 2001 was screened during "Movie Night" aboard the Starship Enterprise. (ENT novel: Last Full Measure)
