The Achernar-class (or Achernar-subtype), also known as the MK-XIB class, was a sub-type of the Constitution-class heavy cruisers and were ordered for Starfleet appropriation on stardate 5930 (late-2260s). (Reference book: Star Fleet Technical Manual)
