Actinides are a group of chemical elements, also referred to as the actinide series.

Characteristics and history[]

These elements are so named because they begin with actinium, and comprise a block of elemental entries in the periodic table. This group of elements includes a number of notable materials with increasing amounts of radioactivity. Compounds formed with actinide elements, including some found to be made of uranium ore, cause interference with starship sensors. (TOS video game: Starfleet Academy Starship Bridge Simulator; TNG episode: "The Mind's Eye")
