Akiko Torunaga was a female Human considered to be one of the finest of Starfleet's so-called "first generation" of starship captains, and was often mentioned in the distinguished company of other such officers, such as Lucian Murat, Kadish and Christopher Pike. (TNG novel: The Forgotten War)
