Albert Barnaby was was a Starfleet officer born in 2343 on Zadar IV to Edward and Lee Barnaby. He had one brother, Harold, whom resided on Meezan IV.

Barnaby graduated from the Starfleet Academy and was assigned to the USS Enterprise-D as a duty security officer under Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Served with distinction, promoted to lieutenant, junior grade in 2366. In 2368, underwent field training for tactical duty. Excelled in simulations. That year, Barnaby was promoted to lieutenant and assigned as a relief tactical officer. Served with distinction. (ST video game: Starship Creator)

In 2370, stardate 47025, Barnaby transported down to the rogue Borg planet to search for Lieutenant Commander Data, and was one of the last to return to the ship. He relieved Ensign Taitt at tactical and served in that position under the temporary command of Dr. Beverly Crusher. He was skeptical of Taitt's abilities, but she soon proved herself after devising a plan to destroy the Rogue Borg ship using a solar fusion eruption. (TNG episode: "Descent, Part II")

After the destruction of the USS Enterprise-D in 2371, Barnaby was assigned as a relief tactical officer on the USS Enterprise-E under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Served with distinction during the Borg's second invasion of Sector 001 in 2373. (ST video game: Starship Creator)
