Albert Schang was a 23rd century Human man. He served in Starfleet as a security guard aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2260s under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.

Biography[]

Schang's parents divorced when he was young, and he didn't see his father Wilhelm Schang for the next 15 years. A career Starfleet officer, his father saw that Schang was accepted into Starfleet Academy, but he failed and washed out in his freshman year. Crewman Schang was transferred to serve under his father's command at Starbase 13.

In 2269, the Federation starship USS Enterprise docked for general maintenance at the starbase. When Kirk asked Wilhelm for permission to investigate a quarantined planet, Wilhelm agreed, but asked that Kirk take his son along and train him as his personal steward.

Schang made for an awkward steward, but adjusted as best he could. Kirk assigned him to landing party duty on Heartland, where he eventually found his calling. Although he fell asleep during watch the first night, and was ashamed of it, the second night he fought through a horde of Danons within the planet's Great Machine and saved Kirk's life. Seeing the man's bravery and potential, Kirk recommended him for a fleet citation. Schang eagerly accepted Kirk's offer to be transferred to the security division. (TOS novel: Devil World)
