Aldebaran III (also referred to as Aldebaran or Aldebaran Colony) is a Federation member world located in the Alpha Tauri system of the Aldebaran Sector of the Beta Quadrant. (TOS novel: Mudd's Angels)

Aldebaran III is one of the earliest Federation-founded colonies.
In 2224, the Olympic Games were held on Aldebaran III. Emony Dax participated in these Olympics and became a three-time latinum medal winner at gymnastics. (DS9 short story: "Old Souls")

Aldebaran was admitted into the United Federation of Planets in 2216.
Aldebaran is a major port for Federation shipping as an administrative and supply center. In 2265, the USS Enterprise stopped off at Aldebaran to collect supplies and welcome aboard Doctor Elizabeth Dehner. (TOS episode: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")
The planet is also home to Starfleet's New Aberdeen Naval Yards in addition to several private shipyards.
After Arcturus IV, this colony is the second largest center of corporate holdings outside the original boundaries of the Federation.
In 2371, Starfleet authorities held Grand Nagus Zek's nephew Belongo there after a "misunderstanding." Quark asked Commander Benjamin Sisko to try to remedy the situation while Sisko was to visit Earth to report on the Dominion. (DS9 episode: "Past Tense")

Aldebaran III is also known as Alpha Tauri III (ST references: Star Trek Maps & Star Charts). It is the third of four planets in the Alpha Tauri system. Aldebaran III has six moons.

The Alpha Tauri system is a binary star with the second star orbiting the first at a distance of 97.5 billion kilometers, a vast trail of minerals and ice extend from the star much like a comets tail which illuminate the Aldebaran night sky. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)

Aldebaran III is noted for its wide variety of plant life and unspoiled wilderness. Much of the planets fauna consists of invertebrate sea life, these include the Aldebaran shellmouth is a species of mollusk native to the planet. It is known for having a tightly closed jaw. As a popular vacation spot with extensive leave facilities, Aldebaran is noted for a wide variety of exotice food beverages including, among other things, its distinctive variety of green-colored whiskey. (TNG episode: "Relics")
