Alderaan was a planet located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants. Alderaan was the site of a diplomatic mission carried out by the spaceship HMS New Zealand in the year 2135. The Bajoran criminal Ibudan chartered a space flight out of Alderaan in 2369. (TNG episode: "Up the Long Ladder"; DS9 episode: "A Man Alone")

The planet's name was apparently an homage to Princess Leia Organa's home of Alderaan in the Star Wars movies.
