Algol (also known as Beta Persei) was a star system. Algol's trinary star was orbited by the Algolian homeworld. The system was home to Algol Prime, Algol II, and Starbase 45 (ST website: Startrek.com; EV comic: "Futures, Part One"; TOS short story: "Make-Believe")

Startrek.com cites TNG episode: "Encounter at Farpoint" as referencing this system, but the actual episode does not mention it.
