Alpha Mensa V was a planet, the fifth planet of the Alpha Mensa system, located in the galaxy's Beta Quadrant.

History and specifics[]

In the 22nd century, this was a colony world, home to a Federation population. Spotting a business opportunity, Hikaru Sulu's grandfather emigrated to the colony to establish a mining operation there. (TOS reference: Official Cooking Manual)

In the early 23rd century, Alpha Mensa V was a childhood home of Hikaru Sulu. (TOS novel: Spock, Messiah!)

The novel Spock, Messiah! noted this world to be Sulu's birthplace, but canon later established he had been born in San Francisco in TOS movie, novelization & comic adaptation: The Voyage Home.

By the later 24th century, Alpha Mensa V was denoted in star charts as being in the Romulan Neutral Zone, and was noted to be uninhabited. (ST reference: Star Charts)
