An "intermittent" war with the people of Altair VI was renewed in 2244. The fight leads to the most devastation in Altairian history. The war ends in 2267 with a peace brought through Federation mediation. (ST roleplay module: All Our Yesterdays: The Time Travel Sourcebook)
The USS Hood visited Altair III in the early 2360s. Due to unknown circumstances, Commander William T. Riker, the ship's first officer, deemed the situation too dangerous to allow the captain to accompany the away team. (TNG episode: "Encounter at Farpoint")
