The American Continent Institute was an institute of higher learning on Earth founded sometime prior to 2236.

History and specifics[]

It was one of several organizations, along with the Aldebaran Rock Hounds and the Olduvai Society, available to be chartered to study the geology of uncharted planets. (TOS novel: Burning Dreams)

The American Continent Institute was responsible for the SS Columbia, which crashed on Talos IV in 2236. Doctor Theodore Haskins was a part of that mission. (TOS episodes: "The Cage", "The Menagerie, Part I")

While working for the institute in 2256 or 2257, Professor Patrick Moore befriended Lieutenant James T. Kirk of the USS Farragut. (TOS comic: "Murder on the Enterprise")

In an alternate reality in 2264, Christopher Pike believed the professors at the institute retained long out-of-date, romanticized beliefs about space exploration. (TOS - Myriad Universes - Infinity's Prism novella: A Less Perfect Union)

Its archives contained a record of the 18 May 2156 proceedings of the United Earth Council. In 2311, this archival record was used as bibliographic reference for a history book on the 150th anniversary of the Federation. (ST reference: Federation: The First 150 Years)

The American Continent Institute was also involved in research at the archaeological sites on Tagus III. (TNG episode: "Qpid")
