Anastasia Natalya Komananov was human female who lived on Earth in the 20th century. She served as a colonel in the KGB, Third Chief Directorate, and died on October 10, 1986, during an attempted coup against Mikhail Gorbachev during the Reykjavik Summit that was thwarted by unknown covert special agents. (TOS novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)

Prior to her death, Col. Komananov had been caricatured in a "tawdry" British spy novel as a "slinky femme fatale", much to her chagrin. (TOS novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1) This novel and her caricature were used, centuries later, by Julian Bashir's friend Felix in a Secret Agent holoprogam. In 2372, the transporter pattern of Kira Nerys was merged with this hologram. (DS9 episode: "Our Man Bashir")

Note: According to Russian naming conventions, the Colonel's surname should properly be Komananova (with an "a", since she is female).
