Andre "Bernie" Bryce was a human Starfleet science officer who served aboard the USS Gallant in the early 2280s, under the command of Captain Bearclaw. His daughter was Nancy Bryce, a crew member aboard the USS Enterprise. (TOS comic: "Who's Who in Star Trek")

During the Gallant's patrol of the Klingon Neutral Zone near Gamma Hydra on Stardate 8141.5, Bryce was unable to detect the Klingon sneak attack that destroyed the Gallant.

Captain Bearclaw's son, William, would long hold Bryce responsible for his father's death. This grudge carried over to Bryce's daughter, Nancy, when both were posted aboard the Enterprise. (TOS comic: "The Wormhole Connection")

Nancy Bryce cherished her memories of her father, so much so that in 2286, when caring for a young Klingon orphan, she considered naming him Bernie. (TOS comic: "Old Loyalties")
