Ensign Anh Hoang was a short human female who served as an engineer aboard the USS Enterprise-E in the 24th century. In 2375, Hoang's family was killed in the Breen attack on Earth. Partly due to her personal problems dealing with this, she had several notations put in her file by various counselors regarding her poor socialization skills.

In early 2379, Hoang, along with many other personnel, transferred to the Enterprise. While aboard the Enterprise, she continued her counseling sessions with Deanna Troi. (TNG novel: A Time to Love)

Soon after her arrival, she began dating another new Enterprise officer, Lieutenant Aaron Studdard. (TNG novel: A Time to Hate) Later that year, Captain Picard walked into a turbolift where Studdard and Hoang were holding hands. They were embarrassed to be seen together, but Picard was glad to see his crewmembers finding happiness.

Hoang was also the winner of a bottle of single-barrel scotch put up by Captain Montgomery Scott as a prize for correctly picking the next time that Lwaxana Troi would contact her daughter Deanna about her upcoming wedding. (TNG novel: A Time for War, A Time for Peace)
