A month later, the government was struck down by a mysterious virus and nearly all were killed or left serious ill. As a result, widespread panic and rioting broke out in Sierra City, leaving Bronstein, her deputy Armando Ramirez, and the rest of the team trying to combat the uprising while working double and triple shifts.
Despite feeling slightly out of her depth with the chief's job, she was pushed even further when she discovered that she was now the head of government as decreed in the Proximan charter. Thankfully her burden was lifted as the Federation starships USS Constellation and USS Enterprise arrived in orbit to deal with the crisis. After discussion between Commodore Matthew Decker and Captain James T. Kirk, it was decided that Starfleet would declare martial law and that they would serve as the heads of government for the duration of the crisis.
