Apache is the collective name applied to culturally related groups of Native Americans from the North American continent on Earth.

Lieutenant Spirit Claw Sanaway, who served aboard the USS Enterprise in the 2240s, was of Apache descent as was USS Enterprise-A crewmember William Bearclaw. (TOS - Enterprise Logs short story: "Though Hell Should Bar the Way"; TOS comic: "Who's Who in Star Trek, Issue 1")

The starships named USS Apache were named in honor of this group, as was the Apache-class.
