Aquila was a star with an associated star system, located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant. The Aquila system was the location of four planets and an asteroid belt with four major asteroids and many minor ones. This system is only one of two known to contain the mineral known as transinium.

The asteroid belt was not created until approximately 2264 (around 2364 some maps showed a planet in the asteroid belt where none existed). According to Denning, the system was relatively quiet (with only the odd prospector and occasional "Moses") until approximately 2334 when miners started setting up in the area. In 2364, a Khulli used the system to frame a Klingon for a terrorist attack. (TNG video game: The Transinium Challenge)
