The arc launcher was an Attrexian weapon, a type of hand-held weapon, powered by idryllium energy, featuring two distinct modes of fire. The primary mode of fire was an effective directed energy weapon setting. Activating the secondary fire mode released a gas cloud into the surrounding area, which could then be ignited by the energy bolt of the primary fire for devastating area-effect damage. It was a primary firearm of many spacefaring Attrexians, and was utilized by the USS Enterprise-E's Hazard Team when an Attrexian space station was being overrun by Idryllian Exomorphs.
