Arik Soong (mirror)
- For the regular universe counterpart, see Arik Soong.
In the mirror universe, Doctor Arik Soong was a human scientist, born circa 2100. Prior to 2155, he served as Imperial Advisor on Technology to the Emperor of the Terran Empire, and following the coup that brought Empress Sato I to power, he was one of the few members of the previous Emperor's inner circle retained by the Empress. In this position, he was charged with studying and reverse-engineering the futuristic technology that made up the USS Defiant.
While engaged in this task, Soong was approached by Sato's husband, Thy'lek Shran, who convinced the computer expert to reconstruct the Defiant's eradicated historical database. While unable to fully restore the database, Soong was able recover enough to reveal that Sato had lied about the origin of the Defiant, which had come from the future of a parallel universe, rather than from their own. With this information, Shran was able to move against Sato, but not before again imposing on Soong's scientific knowledge to create a binary clone from Shran's and Sato's DNA.
After Sato escaped from exile and rebel imprisonment and returned to Earth to reclaim her throne, she personally executed Soong. (ENT - Mirror Universe novel: Age of the Empress)
Soong's work with artificial life-forms was later carried on by his descendant Noonien Soong. (TNG - Mirror Universe novel: The Worst of Both Worlds)
