Arne Darvin was a Human man in the 23rd century.
In 2267, Darvin was to take up the position of assistant administrator to Nilz Baris of the Planetary Development Corps on Deep Space Station K-7, coordinating efforts to colonize Sherman's Planet. He travelled to his posting aboard the USS Lexington where he met his fate. Gralmek, a Klingon Intelligence agent, murdered Darvin, disposing of the body and taking on his identity. (Gralmek's orders had been to stab the real Darvin in the back, but he refused to do so and insisted on facing Darvin openly, reasoning that a man has the right to know his killer.) As Darvin, Gralmek intended to sabotage the Federation's efforts, though he was ultimately unsuccessful. (ST - Klingons - Blood Will Tell comic: "Issue 2")
Background information[]
The truth of the "Arne Darvin" identity has differed across works. The Klingons: Blood Will Tell comic series depicted Darvin as a real human who was murdered by the Klingon "Gralmek". The hardcover reference book Federation: The First 150 Years similarly establishes Darvin as a real human who was murdered to make way for the Klingon agent "Kron". By contrast, the novella Honor in the Night states that there was never a human named Darvin, the identity having been created purely by manipulation of computer records.
