Astronomy is a study of events that take place outside of the Earth's atmosphere, and astrophyics is the part of the study of astronomy that deals with the physical aspects of the universe as a whole.

In 2372, the Astrophysics department aboard the USS Enterprise-E complained that the violent maneuvering and weapons fire used during war games with the USS Samson, interfered with their observations of the Pantera Nebula. (TNG eBook: A Sea of Troubles)
