An Audiobook is a publishing format by which a book is distributed as a cassette tape, compact disk or digital audio file, as opposed to being printed on paper and bound.
Quark once recorded an audiobook (with help from his brother Rom and his cousins Gaila and Kono) in which he discussed the origins of the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition. (DS9 novel: Legends of the Ferengi)

Peter Pan Records[]
The first Star Trek audio productions were released on record sets by Peter Pan Records. Twenty-three record sets were released between 1975 and 1979, variously re-releasing a series of eleven different stories:

Simon and Schuster Audioworks[]
Simon and Schuster Audioworks, a sister company to the Star Trek prose publisher Pocket Books began publishing audio adaptations of Pocket Books books in 1986. Early adaptations were abridged by the author, while many later novels were abridged by George Truett. Audiobooks are commonly narrated by Star Trek cast members.
In addition to the line of audiobook adaptations Simon and Schuster have also released a limited number of original audiobooks and adaptations of two Simon and Schuster Interactive games.
