Avenal VII is a Cardassian planet which is located deep in the Union.

Avenal was attacked by forces of the Klingon Empire, lead by General Martok, in the closing weeks of the Dominion War in late 2375. The Klingons were outnumbered six-to-one, resulting in heavy losses. (DS9 episode: "Tacking Into the Wind", GKN novel: A Good Day to Die)

Among those killed at the battle was the leader of the House of Palkar, the father of the IKS Gorkon's chief engineer Kurak. (GKN novel: Honor Bound)
