Avery Brooks is American actor best known to Star Trek fans for playing Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Brooks appeared in every episode of the series and also directed nine, including "Far Beyond the Stars", one of Star Trek's most popular episodes. Brooks also voiced Captain Sisko in the games Harbinger, Captain's Chair and Star Trek: Legacy.

Prior to his role as Sisko, Brooks was well known as Hawk in Spenser: For Hire and A Man Called Hawk. He also reprised the role in four television movies during the run of Deep Space Nine. Brooks also appears in the films The Big Hit, American History X and 15 Minutes.

Brooks is also an accomplished stage actor, and has appeared in many productions of Shakespearean plays. Aside from his theatre roles, Brooks also teaches at Rutgers and narrates documentaries for television and other media.
