Avery Brooks is American actor best known to Star Trek fans for playing Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He appeared in every episode of the series and also directed nine, including "Far Beyond the Stars", one of Star Trek's most popular episodes. Brooks also voiced Captain Sisko in the games Harbinger, Captain's Chair and Star Trek: Legacy.

Prior to his role as Sisko, he was well known as Hawk in Spenser: For Hire and A Man Called Hawk. He also reprised the role in several television movies during DS9's run.

Brooks is also an accomplished stage actor, and has appeared in many productions of Shakespeare's plays. Aside from his theatre roles, he also teaches at Rutgers and narrates documentaries for television and other media.
