Badlands is the title of a mission in the game Star Trek Online. The first mission in the Cardassian front, this mission features a conflict with the Cardassian group True Way. It also features the first appearance of Joshua Riker. It was removed from the game with the New Dawn update on October 27, 2015.

Description[]

Federation[]

<rank>, I'm getting dozens of reports of raiders hitting civilian ships near the Badlands. Starfleet Intelligence believes that the raids are related to True Way activity in that region.:We know that area is a haven for smugglers and criminals of all types. It stands to reason that the True Way are using it to avoid capture as well. They might even be using some kind of Maquis base that was abandoned before the Cardassian war.:I know the Badlands are dangerous, but I have complete confidence in the <shipname> and her crew.

Klingon Empire[]

<rank>, we have received reports of so-called "True Way" activists in the Badlands, a region of turbulent nebula-like activity near Deep Space 9. The True Way are made up of Cardassians and Dominion elements that refuse to recognize the treaty signed by their government after the Klingon Empire destroyed Cardassia's military power.:The Badlands are a haven for smugglers and criminals of all types. It stands to reason that the True Way are using it to avoid capture as well. They may have even occupied old fortifications used by criminal Federation elements from before the Dominion War.:The Badlands are dangerous and filled with hostile ships. This should be a worthy challenge for the <shipname>. Show the True Way why they should not be so quick to draw the ire of the Empire!

Romulan Republic[]

<rank>, I'm getting dozens of reports of raiders hitting civilian ships near the Badlands. Starfleet Intelligence believes that the raids are related to True Way activity in that region.:I know that this is a bit far from the Romulan Republic, but this kind of commerce raiding has a tendency to get out of hand if it's not handled quickly and decisively. The last thing we need is the True Way expanding its operations and becoming involved with the Tal Shiar or other organized groups.:The Badlands are a fairly dangerous region of space, but you've already shown that the <shipname> can handle a little danger.

Summary[]

After receiving instructions from either James Kurland or S’taass, the player heads to the Badlands and scans five moons in search of the True Way facility while fighting Cardassian ships. He/she eventually detects a compound with several grounded ships on the fifth moon and prepares to beam down, but a Cardassian ship commanded by Gul Brun attacks, and the player destroys it before transporting down to the surface.

In the compound, the player fights True Way soldiers and rescues a human named Joshua Riker, who explains that the Cardassians are storing large numbers of weapons in the base. The player rescues the other prisoners and helps Riker destroy the weapons, and then plant explosives to destroy the base all at once. When this is done, Riker returns to the other prisoners while the player goes to stop Brun. He/she finds the gul in the shuttlebay and defeats his soldiers before confronting Brun himself, defeating him before he can escape in Riker’s captured shuttlecraft.

With Brun stopped, the player returns to the prisoners, and Riker asks him/her to tell his “uncle” Will that his father found a place where he belonged before he died.
