Bajora

Emblem of the Republic of Bajor
SciAdded by Sci

The Bajora were an ethnic subgroup of the Bajoran species. They became a nation-state, and eventually dominated the planet culturally and economically, subsuming other ethnic identities. They were interested in many of the world's political movements, and planted representatives in various locations in other nation-states. Thousands of years later, despite the persistence of regional and ethnic variation among the people of Bajor, they now share a common identity as Bajorans.

During the Gateways Crisis, and again in the wake of a near-fatal attack, Kira Nerys envisioned herself living among the ancient Bajora. Their mode of operations was to approach the various nation-states and urge them to join their global unification movement, as well as joining in their worship of the Prophets. The Bajora's offer was rebuked by the Perikia shortly after their formation of a provisional government, but the Lerrit chose to ally with the Bajora to gain arms for a resurgence in hostilities against their former holdings. Knowing the Lerrit Prince was sterile, they hoped to take over when he died. (DS9 short story: "Horn and Ivory")

In another vision Kira had several months later, she led Bajora soldiers to Parek Tonn which had been taken over by the Eav'oq. The Bajora and the Eav'oq later stood together against the Ascendants. (DS9 novel: Warpath)

The name is sometimes used in reference to the modern people of Bajor. (TNG episode: "Ensign Ro", DS9 episodes: "Emissary", "A Man Alone")

The name was sometimes used to refer to the Bajoran homeworld itself. (TNG comic: "Bridges")
