Bajoran professors of the Institute were given funding for a range of archeaological expeditions that were tasked with uncovering the forgotten pasts of the planet. One such expedition was led by Nilan Artir who was searching the ruins of the lost planet of Bar'trila. (TOS novel: Captain's Peril)
