Yeoman Barbara Smith was a Human enlisted member of Starfleet in the 2260s.
In 2265, she served aboard the USS Enterprise as Captain James T. Kirk's personnel yeoman. However, the two never developed a good working relationship, which was hampered by Kirk constantly referring to her as "Yeoman Jones", after a gamma shift yeoman of that name. Following the Enterprise's mission to the galactic barrier, Smith applied for a transfer. (TOS episode: "Where No Man Has Gone Before"; TOS - Mere Anarchy eBook: Things Fall Apart)
A few days later, Smith attended Lieutenant Lee Kelso's memorial service. Following this her request for a transfer was approved by Captain Kirk, and she left the ship when the Enterprise reached Earth. (TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Constitution)
