Barnhart was a Starfleet crewman who served aboard the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) in the 2260s.

In 2266, Barnhart was one of several crewman killed aboard the Enterprise by the M-113 creature for the salt from his body. He was discovered dead on deck 9 by Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu and Yeoman Janice Rand. (TOS episode: "The Man Trap")
