A barrowbug was an insect found on Bajor. They dug and lived in mounds. (DS9 episode: "Ties of Blood and Water")

Barrowbugs resembled Earth cockroaches and spat acidic venom. On average, they were about the size of a Human fist. (DS9 - Terok Nor novel: Day of the Vipers)
