Barry Giotto was a Human male who served in Starfleet in the late 23rd century. (TOS novel: Wagon Train to the Stars)

Throughout much of the 2260s, 70s and 80s, Giotto served as a security officer aboard the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. By 2267, Giotto had earned the rank of lieutenant commander and served as chief of security.

During the mission to Janus VI in mid-2267, Giotto led a team of eight security officers to assist Captain Kirk and Commander Spock locate the mother Horta. (TOS episode: "The Devil in the Dark")

Shortly after, Giotto ordered Lieutenant Dave Galloway and Paul Bates to accompany Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock to the surface of the planet Gateway to search for Dr. Leonard McCoy. (TOS novel: The Fire and the Rose)

A few months later, Giotto and his security teams beamed down to the surface of Capella IV and aided the native Capellans attempt to resist a Klingon attack. (TOS novel: First Strike)
