Barry Giotto (also known as Salvatore Giotto or Antonio Giotto) was a Human male who served in Starfleet in the late 23rd century.

BiographyEdit

Throughout much of the 2260s, 70s and 80s decades, Giotto served as a security officer aboard the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. By 2267, Giotto had earned the rank of lieutenant commander and served as chief of security.

During the mission to Janus VI in mid-2267, Giotto led a team of eight security officers to assist Captain Kirk and Commander Spock locate the mother Horta. (TOS episode: "The Devil in the Dark")

Shortly afterwards, Giotto ordered Lieutenant Dave Galloway and Paul Bates to accompany Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock to the surface of the planet Gateway to search for Dr. Leonard McCoy. (TOS novel: The Fire and the Rose)

A few months later, Giotto and his security teams beamed down to the surface of Capella IV and aided the native Capellans' attempt to resist a Klingon attack. (TOS - Invasion! novel: First Strike)

In the 2270s, he served on the Enterprise during the Belle Terre Expedition. Alongside other security personnel, he tried to maintain order on the passenger transport Yukon while it was under quarantine. (TOS - New Earth novel: Wagon Train to the Stars)

BackgroundEdit

Giotto was referred to as "lieutenant commander" but wore a full commander's sleeve insignia on his uniform, apparently a common practice as he did so around the same time period that Spock and Ben Finney wore commander rank insignia during their tenures as lieutenant commanders.

The novels Wagon Train to the Stars, In Tempest's Wake, and From History's Shadow call him Barry Giotto. The novel A Choice of Catastrophes calls him Salvatore Giotto. The novel Past Prologue calls him Antonio Giotto.
