Baruda

Baruda was the great-uncle of Prince Vikram of Angira. The other members of the royal family locked Baruda away in a tower, then forgot about him. A few old servants brought him enough food for himself and the rastas that he'd made into pets. Twenty years later, the family accidentally rediscovered him during a palace revolt when they were looking for places to hide. He refused to let anyone in, and after the revolt had been defeated, he refused to come out, having come to prefer his pets over people. (TOS novel: Shadow Lord)
