Janice Rand and Beauregard

Yeoman Janice Rand and Beauregard in 2266.

Beauregard (also known as Gertrude) was a carnivorous Weeper plant that was kept in the botanical garden aboard the USS Enterprise in 2266.

The plant was named Beauregard by Yeoman Janice Rand, who suggested the plant was a male when it purred in her presence. However, Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, who was caring for the plant, decided that the plant was female and that Gertrude was an appropriate name. When the M-113 creature boarded the Enterprise posing as Ensign Green, Beauregard sensed that Green was not human and became highly agitated. (TOS episode: "The Man Trap")

In 2290, Hikaru Sulu visited a Delvin cat trap plant on the USS Excelsior named Gertrude. The plant had gold and red fronds. (TLE novel: Excelsior: Forged in Fire)

In 2294, Commander Anik asked Commander Rand about her time with Sulu aboard the Enterprise, and Rand told her that many of her days aboard were spent with Sulu and Beauregard in the botanical garden. (TOS novel: The Captain's Daughter)
