Berengaria VII was a planet in the Alpha Quadrant, the seventh planet in the Berengaria star system. It is roughly equivalent to Earth in its Jurassic era. (DS9 novel: Lesser Evil; TNG novel: Q & A)

Geography

The surface gravity of Berengaria VII is roughly two-thirds that of Earth. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Star Trek: The Original Series Core Game Book)

This world orbits a red giant star and is a Class M planet, orbited by three moons: Alpha, Beta and Gamma. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)

History

In December 2154, prior to the founding of the Federation, Berengaria VII was to be scouted by the Earth Starfleet ship Enterprise as the site of one of a proposed chain of starbases. T'Pol described the world as having a thriving ecosystem devoid of intelligent life. However, she mentioned that a Vulcan survey team had made note of a species of flying reptiles, over 200 meters in length, that breathe fire. However, an incident with the Orions postponed or canceled this mission. (ENT episode: "Bound")

Berengaria was indeed the home to Draco Berengarius, an endangered species of dragon-like reptilian animals that came to be on the Federation's protected species list. (TOS episode: "This Side of Paradise"; ENT episode: "Bound", DS9 novel: Bajor: Fragments and Omens, TOS novel: The Fearful Summons)

During the early parts of the Romulan War, Berengaria VII was lost to the Romulans and retaken by the Coalition of Planets fairly quickly during the Battle of Berengaria. (ENT novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing)

Berengaria VII later became a Federation colony world, and subsequently a member world in its own right. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)

Elias Vaughn was born and raised on Berengaria VII, where he was once attacked by a Draco Berengarius when he entered the Vale of Mists. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Twilight, TNG novel: The Battle of Betazed, DS9 novel: Bajor: Fragments and Omens, DS9 novel: The Soul Key)

Several weeks before the beginning of the Dominion War, Kai Winn Adami asked Captain Benjamin Sisko if the United Federation of Planets would be willing to sacrifice Berengaria to save Bajor from the Dominion. (DS9 episode: "In the Cards")

In 2381, the Borg attempted to destroy Berengaria during the Borg Invasion of 2381, but failed. One of the starships defending the planet was the USS Wounded Knee. (TNG novel: Losing the Peace)
