Circa 200,000 years ago, a planetoid in this system was the site of a colony. The colony was destroyed by orbital bombardment, leaving artifacts in the area around the world. (STO mission: "Beta Lankal System Patrol")

In 2376, Klingon Chancellor Martok maintained a base in the Beta Lankal system. The base cam under attack by forces from the House of Duras led by the pretender Toral. During the battle between loyal and Toral's forces, Ambassador Worf arrived with the USS Avenger and brought Martok aboard to transport him and the Sword of Kahless to Qo'noS. - The stellar notation using the Greek language letter "beta" indicates that there might be a star group or constellation of some sort named "Lankal", of which Beta Lankal would logically be indicated to be the second most prominent star or system.
