Bio-neural circuitry
Bio-neural circuitry was a technology which was incorporated into bio-neural gel packs, which were first installed aboard Federation starships in the early 2370s. The circuitry was designed to supplement and eventually replace the isolinear circuitry, as bio-neural circuitry was shown to process information more efficiently, and speed up computer response time as a result. The Intrepid-class starships that entered service in 2370, was one of the first starship classes to be equipped with bio-neural circuitry. (VOY episode: "Caretaker")
Bio-neural circuitry was also employed in ocular implants, replacing the obsolete Aroeste interfaces previously used. (TNG - Slings and Arrows eBook: The Insolence of Office)
