Bio-neural circuitry was a technology which was incorporated into Bioneural gel packs, which were first installed aboard Federation starships in the early 2370s. The circuitry was designed to supplement and eventually replace the isolinear circuitry, as bio-neural circuitry was shown to process information more efficiently, and speed up computer response time as a result. The Intrepid-class starships that entered service in 2370, was one of the first starship classes to be equipped with bio-neural circuitry. (VOY episode: "Caretaker")

Bio-neural circuitry was also employed in ocular implants, replacing the obsolete Aroeste interfaces previously used. (TNG - Slings and Arrows eBook: The Insolence of Office)
