Bleak House was a historical novel written by the Earth novelist Charles Dickens in the 19th century.

James T. Kirk was of the opinion that there was something "obscene" about publishing a book such as Bleak House on a computer disk, as opposed to on paper. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)

While being held prisoner in a Cardassian labor camp on Lazon II in 2371, Thomas Riker claimed that Bleak House "was the story of my life." (TNG novel: Triangle: Imzadi II)
