The bogeyman or boogeyman is a fictional character originating from several Human cultures on the planet Earth. The boogeyman did not have a given appearance or characteristics, but was the embodiment of fear.

History and specifics[]

Quark once compared the Bogeyman to the Klingon Keeper of the Dishonored Dead, the Cardassian Nameless Traitor and on Ferenginar, the Smiling Partner. (DS9 novel: Legends of the Ferengi)

In the year 2259, while having pasta with Captain Marie Batel, Christopher Pike stated that Romulans, suspected of intentions to advance the Romulan Neutral Zone, were essentially just a boogeyman, and that there was no point in harboring fear for the Federation's border the way the Earth Outpost Station planners had them doing. (SNW episode: "A Quality of Mercy")

In the year 2370, as Jean-Luc Picard finished a conversation with Mister Boothby, the Starfleet Academy groundskeeper, the gardener warned Picard not to let the boogeyman get him. Moments later Picard was attacked by a Tellarite assassin. (TNG - The Space Between comic: "An Inconvenient Truth")
