Branch admiral is a position, a title awarded to a Federation Starfleet officer of admiral's rank who is in the command level for certain divisions of Starfleet. The branch admiral's position was created in the 24th century to facilitate the proper administration of Starfleet Security, Starfleet Medical, the Starfleet Corps of Engineers and the Starfleet Inspector General Office.

A special uniform insignia was created, a white shoulderboard that could be worn on duty attire to denote the wearer as a branch admiral.
