- For other uses, see Brigadoon.
Brigadoon the myth that began as a 20th century musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. Lerner's book was based on a much older German story by Friedrich Gerstäcker about the mythical village of Germelshausen that fell under an evil magic curse. The citizens of this village awake one day, for every hundred years of sleep.
The rift connecting the United Federation of Planets to the Gamma Quadrant dwelling Calligar was unceremoniously named Brigadoon by an USS Enterprise crew member in 2254. The Brigadoon rift opens for a varying number of hours every 33.4 years.
The rift was also known as "Pike's Rift" and "Anomaly T-128".
Christopher Pike's Enterprise was the first representative of the United Federation of Planets to go through the Brigadoon rift. In 2287, James T. Kirk and the USS Enterprise-A made a second trip through the rift. The third opportunity in 2320 was ignored due to the pressing concerns of the Klingon-Romulan War. (TOS novel: The Rift)
It is unknown what happened at the 2354 opening, or if anything is planned for the 2387/2388 opening.
