Buckskin was a type of leather which was made from the hide of deers.

Upon beaming down to Fornax II in 2268, Captain James T. Kirk noticed that the tunic worn by Dr. Albar Exar was made of a material which appeared similar to buckskin. (TOS short story: "Ni Var")
