Calder II is a planet, the second planet of the Calder system located in the galaxy's Beta Quadrant. Calder was located near the Romulan Neutral Zone in the 24th century.
History and specifics[]
This class L planet had an oxygen/argon lower-pressure atmosphere. Dry deserts predominated the landscape. The planet took 287 days to complete a yearly orbit. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Planets of the UFP)
- Fact Files Issue 23: "File 3 Card 3G, Alpha Quadrant" said it was a class M planet in the Alpha Quadrant.
Thousands of years ago, dissident Vulcans during their exodus stopped for a time on Calder II en route to their final home on Romulus. Letoth believed a lost Vulcan colony on Chaltok IV had been sent through time to end up on Calder II. (Adventures RPG module: Beta Quadrant Sourcebook)
Such dissident Vulcans settled Calder II, as well as Dessica II, Jollan IV, and Barradas III. (Last Unicorn RPG module: The Way of D'era: The Romulan Star Empire)
A group of Vulcan dissidents, known as the Sakethans, built several burial mounds on the planet. The planet was also known for containing many Debrune artifacts. (ST reference: Star Charts)
In the mid-22nd century, the planet was used by the United Earth government and Confederacy of Vulcan as a means to spy on the Coalition of Planets immediate neighbors; the aggressive Klingon Empire and the mysterious Romulan Star Empire. In the year 2155, the Romulans later spearheaded an invasion of Coalition space through the use of telecapture technology to remotely take over enemy ships which allowed them to successfully claim Calder II as a beachhead for further attacks on the Coalition races homeworlds. (ENT novel: Kobayashi Maru, ENT - The Romulan War novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing)
During the Earth-Romulan War, after ousting the Romulans off Calder II, Earth Starfleet established a forward operating base there. In November 2159, supply problems warranted sending a supply convey there, but a Romulan ship intercepted them before they arrived. (ENT - The Romulan War novel: To Brave the Storm)
By the early 2370s decade, Calder II was the location of a Federation science station and outpost, established with a focus on archaeology. The outpost was protected by a type-4 deflector shield, and was armed with only two phaser banks for defensive purposes. (TNG episode: "Gambit"; Decipher RPG module: Narrator's Guide)
Alternate reality[]
In the Kelvin timeline in 2259, Yeoman Chen was killed on Calder II in a freak shuttle accident. (TOS comic: "Hendorff")
Mirror universe[]
In the mirror universe, the Sakethans hid a segment of the Stone of Gol inside the burial mounds on the planet. This segment of the stone was later recovered by treasure hunter Jean-Luc Picard in the early 2370s. (TNG - Glass Empires novel: The Worst of Both Worlds)
