Carmen Davila was a civilian engineer and a senior member of the Melona IV colony project. Davila worked with USS Enterprise-D personnel while making plans for the first buildings on the colony. Davila became particularly close to Commander William T. Riker.

In 2368, Davila was consumed when the Crystalline Entity destroyed the colony site in order to absorb all the biomatter on the planet. Davila died attempting to save an elderly man who had fallen while fleeing to a series of underground caverns with the rest of the Melona colonists. (TNG episode: "Silicon Avatar")

In 2380, the now Captain Riker of the USS Titan encountered three Crystalline Entities which brought up painful memories of Davila. (TTN novel: Orion's Hounds)
