The Centauri Test Range was a massive industrial complex that was built on Stardate 0/8806 following the approval of the Alpha Centauran government. This facility was to serve research center along with being a location where shipboard weapons along with propulsion systems could be tested. Even before the Centauri Test Range was completed, Starfleet Engineering Command was known to had made use of the site for new starship designs and weapons.
