Centurion class

The Centurion-class cruiser was a type of starship that was employed by the Romulan Star Empire roughly during the year 2280. It was an upgraded and improved version of the Garuda-class after various border 'disputes' with the Klingon Empire.
The ships played a special role within the Romulan Imperial Fleet as a type of troop ship, one that was outfitted with a CFDIC. The ships purpose was changed with new tactics requiring it to be cloaked in a 'rear guard' type role where it would remain until it approached disabled enemy ships. Once approaching the ship, the Centurion class cruiser would decloak and fire its CFDIC which would kill of the enemy crew. Anything that survived would then have to fight of a boarding crew of Romulan marines.
This form of warfare made the ship a specialist troop transport with its main irradiation weapon taking much of its internal space, along with area for the marines. This meant that it had little placement of other weaponry which made it a poor front line ship.
