The Chaffee (NX-74205/01) was a Federation Type-10 shuttlecraft in service to Starfleet in the late 24th century. She was commissioned in 2373, and was the prototype for a new class of shuttles. That year or the next year, the Chaffee was assigned to the USS Defiant. Chaffee was named in honor of astronaut Roger B. Chaffee. In late 2374, Benjamin Sisko, Miles O'Brien and Julian Bashir used the Chaffee to enter the atmosphere of a Class L planet to rescue Captain Lisa Cusak. After it was discovered Cusak had been dead for more than three years, they brought her body aboard the Defiant using the shuttlecraft. (DS9 episode: "The Sound of Her Voice")
In 2376, Doctor Bashir wanted to use the Chaffee to transfer medical supplies to Europa Nova. (DS9 Gateways novel: Demons of Air and Darkness)
