Chak was a Romulan Star Empire airless moon in orbit of a gas giant located in an unnamed system of The Triangle at the edge of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant. The closest planet in its vicinity was D'Kornam. It was the location of a secret Romulan base.
Officially the surface was the location of a communication relay station occupied by six personnel members. Unofficially, there were around 200 Romulan officers and enlisted personnel, officialy reported as killed in action, stationed in an underground facility. (FASA RPG module: The Triangle)

The station was the research site of advanced military projects. Among others, the principal research was concentrated on advanced plasma weapons, a Starcracker bomb and a super-warp engine similar to the Federation's Transwarp. The Warp engine was the only project even close to completion, thought limited success was predicted.
The facility was extremely expensive to run by the Empire, the many vital functions that needed to be concealed and the supply ships that had to travel under cloak, combined with the expenses generated by the security measures, considered the best in the galaxy at the time, made the Empire greatly reconsider the entire investment.
