Chal, which means 'Heaven', is a Klingon planet with few land masses present. It is in a binary star system which contained an incasdescent plasma bridge that joined the twin suns.

The native species were a unique hybrid race of Klingon and Romulans who were genetically engineered. This race is known as the Chalchaj 'qmey.

In the novel it is stated that Chal means heaven, however, in tlhIngan Hol it means sky
