Rakhari sector

The Chamra Vortex within the Rakhari sector in 2410.

The Chamra Vortex was an interstellar gas cloud, an uncharted Mutara class nebula located in the Rakhari sector[1] of the galaxy's Gamma Quadrant. (DS9 episode: "Vortex")

History and specifics[]

Vortex

The Ganges enters the Chamra Vortex.

The Chamra Vortex was only a few lightyears from Rakhar, homeworld of the Rakhari species. (ST reference: Star Charts)

In the 2360s decade, the nebula remained uncharted. It was used by criminals, such as Croden, for smuggling operations. At one point, he hid his daughter from Rakhari authorities on an asteroid within the Vortex.

In 2369, Croden was incarcerated on Deep Space 9 in the Alpha Quadrant. He was returned to the Chamra Vortex and reunited with his daughter by Constable Odo. They travelled together aboard the Danube-class runabout USS Ganges. To gain Odo's sympathy, Croden lied and pretended there was a Changeling colony in the nebula.

After rescuing Croden's daughter, the Ganges was pursued by a Miradorn Ma-Karn-class smuggler ship. Taking advantage of the nebula's properties, Odo devised a means for the Miradorn ship to destroy itself when it fired its photons. The Rakhari were transferred to the Vulcan science vessel VSS T'Vran, which had detected the explosion in the Vortex and offered assistance. (DS9 episode: "Vortex")

Chamra Vortex 2410

The Chamra Vortex in 2410.

In the 2370s, the Bajorans had established the New Bajor colony between the Chamra Vortex and the Idran star system. (ST reference: Star Charts)

By the year 2410, the Dominion had expanded into this region, known as the Rakhari sector and now part of the Gamma Quadrant sector block. (STO - Engineered for War mission: "Turn the Tide")
